Design of open areas

The business park "Airport City" located at Düsseldorf Airport Airport is marked, in addition to an exceptionally good location, by high-quality planning and the successful overall design of the open and green areas.

The design of the open areas was already given thorough consideration when drawing up the urban design concept.

To guarantee the high standards of quality in "Airport City", an internationally advertised open area design competition was held with the goal of refining the quality of the open areas (surface design, grouping of trees, kinds of trees, and lawns in public areas, etc.) The planning design of the winning company, Büro Vogt of Zurich, was implemented to a great extent and will be completely finished by the end of 2007.

Objectives

The objective of the design is to accommodate the varied demands on use of the open spaces surrounding the buildings and achieve a high ambience quality in "Airport City". The green areas of the Bürgerpark (tunnel covering A 44) were integrated into the designs to achieve a harmonious overall image.
In the western plan sector, an elaborately designed square with good ambience quality is being created for the users of "Airport City".

The public green and traffic areas as well as the central square and garden are important cores of this planning. This integrates existing green areas with older trees into the plan. It was unfortunately impossible to avoid the necessity of having to cut down some trees. This loss will be more than compensated by the creation of new, high-quality green structures.

The outstanding green and open space design including the adjacent Bürgerpark with appropriate property sizes offer investors a location where customized architecture can be implemented to fit individual demands precisely.
