Check-in

We recommend that you check-in between 90 and 120 minutes before departure. The check-in time varies from airline to airline and depends on your destination. For non-stop flights to the USA you should allow for a little more time.  Most airlines close their check-in counter 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

All the check-in counters are located in the central departure hall. Please consult one of the numerous information monitors to find out the counter number for your flight or your airline. If you click on the flight number under "Departures" you’ll get the latest information about your check-in counter.

If you’re flying Lufthansa, you check in at the counters 101-120. For domestic flights with Air Berlin, please go to counters 171-180; check-in for European destinations is at the counters 151-170; USA long-haul flights at the counters 263-269; and the remaining long-distance flights at 257-259.

Information about Late Night Check-in is to be found here.

Code Sharing
Code Sharing is the term used when two or more airlines share a scheduled flight. Each of the airlines involved offers the relevant flight with its own flight number, but it is flown by one and the same aircraft. This means that there can be different flight numbers for one flight.

An example from our flight schedule:

The non-stop flight to J.F. Kennedy-Airport in New York from Düsseldorf is offered in Code Sharing by airberlin and Etihad Airways. The Etihad flight number is EY 1190, the airberlin flight number AB 7450. The flight is carried out by  airberlin.

The ticket gives the flight number of the issuing airline. On the display board in the terminal the flight numbers are displayed alternately and on our website all the relevant flight numbers are listed individually with the annotation ‘Code Sharing’.

Code Sharing is usually practised within airline alliances such as the Star Alliance, OneWorld or SkyTeam. This enables airlines to offer flights which are not carried out by themselves, but by a partner airline of the respective alliance.
