DUSconnect - Düsseldorf is building the mobility of the future
Partner:
The state capital of Düsseldorf, Düsseldorf Airport and EUREF AG are planning a trimodal mobility hub in the north of the state capital - between the airport, the airport long-distance train station and the EUREF campus. Covering around 70,000 square meters, the DUSconnect project will intelligently link air, rail and road transport with public transport and cycle paths. At the same time, it creates space for optimally connected office, hotel and parking areas.

A location with ideal conditions
With 18.5 million people, Düsseldorf Airport has the largest catchment area in continental Europe and counted over 20 million passengers in 2024 alone. It is the German airport with the most diverse connections: 420 trains already stop at its long-distance train station every day, the expansion of the U81 and RRX will further strengthen its local transport services in the Rhine-Ruhr region, and the A44 and A52 freeways provide a direct connection to long-distance road traffic.
What are the plans?
The mobility hub is to be built in three phases by 2035, starting from the extended 3rd construction phase of EUREF AG's EUREF Campus in Düsseldorf. In addition to around 30,000 square meters of office space, there will be 1,500 additional parking spaces and a three-star hotel. In terms of transport, the DUSconnect plans provide for numerous expansion stages around the airport's long-distance train station, which will accompany the planned rail track extensions for local and regional transport: a second pedestrian bridge, park & ride facilities, the connection of a cycle route, an additional freeway connection to the A44, stops for fan and long-distance buses and a multi-storey parking lot in the immediate vicinity of the planned Airport City III.

“The future of air traffic is emerging in the north of Düsseldorf!”
“We are creating an area at our airport for the sustainable energy supply of a CO2-neutral airport. For example, by building a hydrogen filling station, a new fuel depot with a rail siding and by providing sustainable aviation fuels. We are relying on an innovation partnership with the neighboring EUREF-Campus and expertise from the NRW region. The DUSconnect mobility hub secures the logistical connection for the eastern airport area and creates an outstanding link between air, rail and road transportation. This will create new attractive transfer options and make DUS Airport a pioneer for trimodality. In the medium term, the remaining domestic German flights can be gradually shifted to new ICE connections.”
