Apron View on terrace

Opening of the visitor terrace during the vacations: Airport gives out 6,500 free tickets

From the take-off of the world's largest passenger aircraft, the A380, to the touchdown of a small Cessna “Skyhawk”: During the NRW summer vacations, it's all about “watching airplanes” with the best view of the runways! Because the airport is temporarily opening the terrace of the “Station Airport” event location at the “Düsseldorf Airport” train station on the last two weekends in August.

Update: This special event kicked off on Thursday, July 30, 2026, and all tickets are already sold out. We’re thrilled by the tremendous interest!

For anyone who hasn’t been able to get a ticket yet, it’s worth checking the booking portal regularly. Due to occasional cancellations, seats may become available again from time to time. Feel free to check back every now and then—maybe the next time you click, there’ll be a seat waiting for you.

Opening times

The Station Airport terrace will be open on August 22, 23, 29 and 30. 6,500 free time slots can be booked via the booking portal. In each case, 500 people can “check in” on the terrace from 10 am to 12 noon, 12:15 pm to 2:15 pm and 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. There is an additional slot on Saturday, August 22, for 500 people from 5:45 to 9:30 am. This “Sunrise Special” is aimed in particular at planespotters and early risers. The terrace will be completely cleared between the slots.

Important information

The terrace is adjacent to the aviation security area. There is a strict bag check at the entrance. Luggage and large bags are not allowed, nor are pocket knives and other dangerous items. There is no possibility on site to lock up or otherwise store such items. Dogs must remain outside. Apart from a snack vending machine, there will be no catering on site.

A suitable tip: At the wheel of fortune, you can win vouchers for the restaurants and stores in the terminal, among other things. This is just a short SkyTrain ride away. In any case, we recommend traveling by public transport directly to the “Airport” station.
