Airport Chaplaincy

Find a sympathetic ear

Are you afraid of flying, need help getting on and off, or just want a conversation? Here you will be helped.

Your contact at the airport

The airport’s spiritual counselors Ute Clevers and Johannes Westerdick have an open ear for all passengers, visitors, and staff at the airport. The counseling is an offering by the churches to all people at the airport, no matter the religion. Both counselors work full-time and are supported by volunteers. The airport counseling is an ecumenical service by Düsseldorf’s Protestant and Catholic churches. For people at the airport, the spiritual counselors are ports of call in emergencies, intercultural mediators, and guides in crisis and emergencies, e.g., when a loved one dies during a trip, or someone needs pragmatic support. Other related services include the counseling for passengers afraid of flying, travel blessing for groups, and church services. Moreover, the counselors have an important function in emergency management, through their support of airlines in caring for relatives of accident victims and in training airport staff and airport care-teams for crisis situation.
