Entry/Exit System: Start at Düsseldorf Airport New border control for non-EU nationals

EES implemented at Düsseldorf Airport

Since 12 October, the new EU entry procedure, the Entry/Exit System (EES), applies to non EU nationals. In Germany, the EES will be introduced gradually over a six-month period. It will start at DUS airport, followed by Frankfurt and Munich once operations in Düsseldorf have been successfully launched, and then be rolled out step by step at all other airports.

Who is affected?

Non EU nationals staying in the European Union for a short stay
(up to 90 days within 180 days).

What will change?

Instead of passport stamps, all entries and exits will be registered digitally. The stored data includes travel dates, a facial image and fingerprints. Self-Service Systems for pre-registration will be available at Düsseldorf Airport.

Important information for travellers

Please plan extra time for border controls, especially in the initial phase, as the checks may take a little longer. You can find the latest information on the Federal Police website bundespolizei.de/travel
